Elderly Drivers and Caregiving in Culver City

As the body ages, it becomes more vulnerable to injury due to ailments such as fragile bones and medical conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Seniors are considered as safer drivers in comparison to other age groups because they tend to wear safety belts and observe speed limits. However, Seniors have the highest crash death rate per mile. In big cities such as Los Angeles and Culver City where the roads are often heavily congested with cars and the freeways have many accidents, it is especially dangerous for the fragile to be driving in such dangerous conditions. To avoid putting your elderly loved ones at risk, A-1 Home Care can provide caregivers who can assist with tasks such as driving to appointments, grocery shopping, and accompanying them on outings to ensure their safety. How to handle searching for Elder Law Attorneys

When a loved one is falling sick and needs personal services, it's hard to decide to embark on a search for an elder law attorney. What do you do and what do you say to the elderly spouse or parent who may not believe that they need assistance? A-1 Home Care suggests that family members get together to discuss this, and search for a supportive elder law attorney by doing research and asking for references.

When you have found an appropriate attorney, make an appointment to see him or her. During the initial consultation, you will be asked to give the attorney an overview of the reason you are seeking assistance, so be sure to organize and bring all the information pertinent to your situation. After you have explained your situation, ask:
  • What will it take to resolve it?
  • Are there any alternate courses of action
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of each possibility?
  • How many attorneys are in the office?
  • Who will handle your case?
  • Has that attorney handled matters of this kind in the past?

Cervical Health Awareness Month/ A-1 Home Care Culver City

Cervical cancer, a disease that affects the female reproductive system, is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).  HPV is a common virus that can be passed from one person to another during sex.
Cervical cancer is a highly preventable disease because screening tests (such as the Pap test), and vaccines to prevent HPV infections are available. When cervical cancer is found early, it is highly treatable and associated with long survival and good quality of life. At later stages, it can sometimes require surgery.
HPV vaccines offer the greatest health benefit to persons who receive all 3 doses before exposure to HPV. Routine HPV vaccination is recommended for girls and boys at age 11 or 12 years. Vaccination also is recommended for females through age 26 years and for males through age 21 years who have not been vaccinated previously.
Although all women are at risk for cervical cancer, it occurs most often in older and senior women over age 30. For women over age 26 years, the best way to prevent cervical cancer is to get routine cervical cancer screening and maintain good self care, as recommended.

Exercise to reduce arthritis pain/ Arthritis Care in Culver City

Exercise is crucial for people with arthritis. It increases strength and flexibility, reduces joint pain, and helps combat fatigue. Of course, when stiff and painful joints are already bogging you down, the thought of walking around the block or swimming a few laps might seem overwhelming.

But you don't need to run a marathon or swim as fast as an Olympic competitor to help reduce the symptoms of your arthritis. Even moderate exercise can ease your pain and help you maintain a healthy weight. When arthritis threatens to immobilize you, exercise keeps you moving.

Exercise can help you improve your health and fitness without hurting your joints. Along with your current treatment program, exercise can:
  • Strengthen the muscles around your joints
  • Help you maintain bone strength
  • Give you more strength and energy to get through the day
  • Make it easier to get a good night's sleep
  • Help you control your weight
  • Make you feel better about yourself and improve your sense of well-being

Magical properties of Vitamin C/ Post surgery Healing Tips

Worrying about healing after a surgery?

Vitamin C is another nutrient critical to wound healing. It’s responsible for making connective tissue, and it acts as a powerful antioxidant. Since surgical trauma causes an increase in the body’s metabolic rate, vitamin C levels can drop. So, consuming up to 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C for up to one week after surgery can help expedite tissue repair.

A combination of food, juice and supplements can be used to attain this level. Prune juice or stewed prunes are an excellent addition to the diet, since prunes are high in vitamin C and can help relieve constipation that is a common side effect of drug therapy.

A-1 Home Care provides talented Culver City After Surgery Care for Seniors and Elderly. We are a nonmedical home health agency that provides services for elders in the Culver City area. Round the clock care is available in Culver City, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Palos Verdes, Malibu, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Hollywood, and others in Los Angeles County and Orange County since 1991.
